Site Map and Details
Welcome to the “Wildflowers of Verona Region” website. The brief introductory notes below will help you find your way around the site more easily, since the main menu gives no information beyond the title of each link.
- About the site - A short introduction to the site and its history (including a small outburst, for which I apologise).
- Synoptic - The site focuses on the taxa found by my friends and me in the Verona area (the ochre-yellow area), thus excluding the Monte Baldo area, following the approach adopted in Flora d'Italia, Flora alpina, Flora Illustrata del Monte Baldo and Flora del Veneto (to which I refer the reader), together with the corresponding images. The images on this page are small. Just above each image I have placed the word “scheda” (species card): clicking it opens the card for that species. The card may contain some explanatory symbols:
Clicking the small image, instead, opens the enlarged image, which you can close with the “X” at the bottom right. The card closes simply by clicking anywhere inside its image (the only exception being the Lamiaceae cards, which close with a dedicated button in the menu at the top).NOT CLICKABLE: CLICKABLE:
Potentially lethal plant.
Detail of the flower.
Toxic plant.
Detail of the leaf.
Protected plant.
Detail of the fruit.
Alien plant.
Detail of the root.
Plant linked to aquatic habitats.
Detail of the whole plant. - Search by Species - This page lists the taxa in alphabetical order, first by “genus”, then by “species”. Clicking the links in bold opens the corresponding cards, exactly as described above (in the synoptic table and in the section of each family you can click the number of each taxon and the central image: clicking the number opens the card, while clicking the icon opens the enlarged image of the page). In some cases only, the family names in the synoptic table can be clicked, opening the family’s dichotomous key for identifying the genera present, or presumed to be present, in Lessinia.
- Search by Family - This page gives access to the alphabetical menu. From this menu you reach the page for the selected letter, which lists the families beginning with that letter. Just click the family you want.
- Glossary - It can be reached simply by clicking this entry, which leads to an alphabetical list of terms, or by clicking the asterisks often found in the dichotomous key, which explain technical terms that are frequently hard to interpret.
- Systematics - A summary of plant systematics.
- Dichotomous Key - A page containing several dichotomous keys for identifying the families present on the site. They are based on Flora d'Italia by S. Pignatti, 1982, La nostra flora by G. Dalla Fior, 1974 and Flora italica by P. Zangheri, 1976, and adapted to search for the families found here. So don’t look for, say, the Anacardiaceae, because you won’t find them ;-). But if you really can’t do without them, you had better consult the “Dichotomous key of the Flora Iberica” (see the related link).
- Bibliography - The main texts consulted in creating the site, and the links to the most interesting botanical websites, which are well worth consulting.
